Place that you can bring your recycling if you have too much cardboard for your curbside pickup.
The Berkeley recycling center is open during the pandemic. Lots of people are working there, working hard, during the day. At home, I have a big blue bin where I put everything recyclable - at the recycling center, I have to sort things into separate bins: plastic #2 separate from brown paper, etc. This takes a some effort if you aren’t prepared for it. Of course, when I don’t sort at home, the sorting still happens, upstream from me. And certainly, when I’ve sorted my cardboard and driven away, that isn’t nearly the end of the story. That isn’t even most of the story, only the beginning of the beginning of the beginning.
The end of the story is far away and still hidden. The trail of effects stretches off through the labor of hundreds of folks into the future.
