When a character tells a joke on Friends, often another character (Chandler?) then explains the joke, and then there is a second kick on the laugh track. There is a science to this.
The pitch and innovation of Friends was its emphasis on mythology: episode-to-episode plot lines and complex inter-friend dynamics. This is nobody’s favorite part of Friends.
The best thing about Friends is that somehow we’ve all seen it. The choice of show is essentially arbitrary, we just all have to pick the same one. Why not Friends?
