a lot of urbanist posters say good things about density for dull instrumental reasons like “shorter commutes” but i really think the existence of extreme densities is a spiritual issue.

sociality is a computational process; a city with low levels of density and interconnection is limited in the exact same ways that semiconductors produced on outdated process nodes are.

most usecases don’t require cutting-edge processes—old chips are all over—but you can’t build the future of fashion, culture or institutions without megacities any more than you can do AI work on a gameboy.
