An anthology horror television series evoking the 1982 movie Creepshow.
Creepshow, the 2019 TV show, is an evocation of the 1982 portmanteu horror movie, Creepshow, which is itself an evocation of the horror comics of the 1950’s, like Tales From the Crypt or The Vault of Horror. Of course, Tales From the Crypt inspired it’s own anthology horror series in the 1990’s, and a 1972 portmanteau horror movie also titled Tales From the Crypt. The current series is a sort of nostalgia ouroboros, evoking all of these things directly and indirectly.
This is a delightful way to process and understand horror - layer after layer of silly scares and things that make you remember other Halloweens. Creepshow (the series) brings in the actors from your favorite sleepover horror movies and horror directors who know how to tell a joke. Nobody spends too much money on anything, which is part of the charm.
My favorite mini-episode so far is The House of the Head, which is about a kid playing with toys. It fits the feel of the series very well.
